About the Author
Claude Fernand
Bourgeois, PhD, was
Director of the Biochemistry and Food Technology Laboratory for Roche Vitamins
France (a subsidiary of Roche Vitamins Europe), where he worked for 34 years
until his retirement in 2002. Winner of the Analytical Chemistry Award from the
Societe Francaise de Chimie Industrielle in 1976 for a method of vitamin C
determination, Dr. Bourgeois is author of the book Determination of Vitamin E:
Tocopherols and Tocotrienols (Elsevier, 1992), editor of the book Les Vitamines
dans l'Industrie Agroalimentaire (Lavoisier, 2003), and author of more than 25
publications on antioxidants and free radicals and the determination of
vitamins in foods and feeds.
Dr. Bourgeois is chairman
of ASFILAB (Association des Responsables de la Qualite Fiabilites
Laboratoires) and member of the Executive Committee of AOAC International
Europe Section and CEN-TC/275 WG-9, which works on normalization and vitamin
determination in foods. He holds a PhD degree from the University of Lyon 1, an
MS degree from Wayne State University, and a degree in chemical engineering
from INSA at Lyon.
